Germany: Leading the Renewables Revolution
Meet leaders from Germany and Minnesota who are involved in solving the social, technical, and political challenges of transforming industrial economies in the era of climate change.
The 2025 application is closed. Check back in October 2025 to apply for the 2026 term.
Prepare
Be aware: Learning Abroad Center programs require a $50 application fee. This fee will be charged to your student account upon submission of an online application.
Non-US Passport holders: a Schengen visa is required to study on this program.

US Passport holders: no visa needed.
If you do not have a passport, or your passport expires less than 3 months after your return date from your time abroad, apply for a new passport now, and pay for expedited processing to make sure it arrives in time.
Apply
This is a 2-step process.
First, click the "Required IonE Form (no cost)" button to share in depth why you would like to be part of the program. This form will ask you questions about your experiences, passions, and motivations.
Next, click the "Required Learning Abroad form ($50 charge)" to complete an application through the Learning Abroad Center. This form is legally required by the University to participate in this program.

After you submit your application, you will receive an email notification confirming that your application was received.

Next Steps
After your application checklist is complete, your application is reviewed by our program team. You will be notified of an acceptance decision by email. If accepted, you will be assigned a confirmation checklist, which you will complete to confirm your participation in the program. If you decide not to continue with the application process, email ione-int@umn.edu to withdraw your application.
Register for CFAN 3532/5532
Your participation in this program is secured by applying and confirming through the Institute on the Environment application process (above).

Once confirmed, you will also need to register for the course CFAN 3532/ CFAN 5532. You will receive a permission code in order to register for the course.

Note: Registering for the course, but not confirming through the Institute on the Environment, will not hold your spot in the program.
